Conservation Activities

We at Trawangan Dive are committed to protecting and conserving the environment, especially the marine environment.

We do all that we can to get involved with organised projects, as well as organising and holding our own conservation projects.

Trawangan Dive was the first dive centre on Gili Trawangan to run the 2 week BioRock Projects, which has helped enormously with increasing the number of BioRocks around Gili Trawangan, (there are now 63) and also heighten the awareness . We first started the projects in 2009 and since then we have created 15 new BioRocks and which is still increasing every year.

We have a 2 week BioRock project running at the moment, with 3 students who are all staying in the backpacker and bungalow rooms here at Trawangan Dive. They are nearing the end of the 2 weeks now and are part way through the rest of their PADI courses and the BioRock Speciality course. The students have experienced and  learnt about coral biology and environmental threats  and have been trained on how to coral garden, survey, conserve, maintain the exciting BioRock and finally design, weld and submerge their own BioRock structure. They have recently created their very own BioRock in the shape of SpongeBob Square Pants.
