As an Open Water Scuba Instructor, you are certified to conduct a variety of courses through to Divemaster certification level. Many of these courses require First Aid and CPR training prior to certification.
Emergency First Response Instructor (EFRI)
Being an EFR Instructor is now a requirement of being a PADI Instructor. All new OWSI's must be EFR instructors for adults and children.
CPR and First Aid are highly important and valuable skills to have and as an individual. Becoming an Emergency First Response Instructor enables you to teach these skills to anyone. The course gives you experience in how to structure the learning requirements for the academic and performance-based segments of the course. It allows you to play out your role as the instructor in the learning environment for teaching CPR and first aid.
In order to take part in this portion of your training you need to have a current EFR certification (or equivalent status, St.Johns/Red Cross) renewed within the last 2 years. During this course you will learn how to train people in onsite first aid, emergency management and CPR.
Materials required: Emergency First response Instructor Manual - $70usd
Teaching the EFR course has other advantages, not only can you emphasize the importance of being able to help someone in an emergency, but you can also market EFR in other ways such as, a community service course, or to non-divers at which time encouraging them to become Open Water divers.
Assistant Instructors can also take the EFRI Course. As a PADI Instructor or PADI Assistant Instructor, you owe it to yourself to complete this training.
